I attended a PD on Treaty of Waitangi which was presented during a PRT meeting by Mr John Pipe on 20th of May, 2015. The PD was quite interesting as it provided historical references to the events that led to signing of Treaty of Waitangi. It helped me to broaden my understanding about the Treaty and the partnership and commitment showed by both the partners.

In order to develop better understanding of Maori students I have a record of all of my Maori students that I am teaching in Term 2, 2015. The list helps me to know about their backgrounds and cultural needs.

I attended a PRT meeting which reflected on the key Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi. The discussion during the meeting helped to broaden my understanding about the relationship between Maori and non Maori. It made me realise the importance of acknowledging the speacial place that Maori have in New Zealand.

The meeting on 6th May, 2015 was about the importance of building relations with Maori learners. The Presentation by two teachers emphasised on strategies such as questioning in groups, building relationships, showing respect and engaging Maori and Pasifika learners. After the meeting I realised that it is important for me to be aware of the cultural environment that Moari and Pasifika learners would learn better. The details in the minutes highlight how I can be aware of the cultural heritage of Maori while teaching in Aotearoa New Zealand.

I wrote a Maori Proverb on the board in my 11LF4 class with the aim of engaging the learners in the class just to highlight to them the importance of working together as a group. The Proverb in Maori emphasises on the need to foster togetherness and building of relationships.
